Overview

The Annapurna region is one of the most famous trekking routes in Nepal. This Annapurna Circuit  trek starts from Chamje in the foothills of the Annapurna.

En route we make our way through the woods, several small villages and a few temples and also cross a few suspension bridges. We also enjoy views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV (7,525m/24,688ft). The trek is moderately difficult with ups and downs on rugged trail. You will notice the scenery and culture dramatically change from subtropical forests, paddy fields, and the world’s deepest river gorge to ice flows, a high mountain pass, arid cliffs, and mountain views.

The trek takes you through Tibetan-like Buddhist villages, and woodlands, through the Marshyangdi Valley. Further, it also offers spectacular views of Annapurna Massif, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Tilicho Peak. The trail also takes you to Mustang and the Hindu pilgrimage town of Muktinath.

Day 05: Trek from Chame to Pisang (3,300m) 5 - 6 hours

The journey for today is filled with narrow paths, a dense forest and a steep slope rising 5000 ft. We are welcomed by fantastic views as soon as we make it through the narrow path. When the valley widens we see the Paungda Danda, a giant of a rock rising 5,000 ft (1500m) above the trail. We continue until we reach Lower Pisang. Overnight in Lower Pisang.

Day 06: Trek from Pisang to Manang 6 - 7 hours

There are two ways to reach Manang. We choose to take the one that takes us to Upper Pisang via Geru as the route is filled with beautiful views of Annapurna and Pisang. While on journey you will gradually notice the change in landscape. Green vegetation soon give way to arid desert like landscape. Overnight at Manang.

Day 07: Acclimatization day

With great heights come great risks, thus we will need to keep one day just to acclimatize. For this purpose we will take on some short hikes to either Bhojo Gumba or Gangapurna Lake and also pay visit to the Himalayan Rescue Association at Vraga Village where we can learn a bit more about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Overnight in Manang.

Day 08: Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4,110m) 3 - 4 hours

The first part of the trail has us crossing a stream, ascending to Tenki and further out of the Marshyangdi Valley into the valley of Jarsang Khola. We continue further northwards passing near the small village of Ghunsa and then through pastures where horses and yaks graze. At this point we are at the last part of today’s trail. We cross a small wooden bridge; then pass an ancient old Mani wall in a pleasant meadow to finally reach Yak Kharka. Overnight at Yak Karka.

Day 09: Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,600m) 3 - 4 hours

We first cross a suspension bridge to reach Ledar village and then ascent further passing through high cliffs to reach Thorang Phedi. This is the last village before Thorong La pass which offers great views of Mt. Khatungkan, Thorung Peak, Mt. Syagang, and Mt. Gundang. Overnight in Thorang Phedi.

Day 10: Trek from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,800m) via Thorong La pass (5416m) 7 - 8 hours

The Thorong La pass is one of the highest passes in the world, thus it may seem daunting. After the summit we move down towards Muktinath Valley. Overnight in Muktinath.
