Gokyo Lake Trek is a lovely trip to the enticing Gokyo lakes which is also one of the most astonishing viewpoints for Everest and other Himalayan Giants. The 14-day trip begins in Kathmandu where we visit several heritage sites, then we head on board on a scenic flight to Lukla. The Gokyo Lakes trek is an alternative to other classical treks in the Everest region. You will be passing through numerous suspensions bridges, monasteries, villages, ever changing landscapes, and the ancient peoples. The view of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawoche and Khumbila mountains are some of the best highlights of this trip along with Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makulu, and Ngazumpa Glacier- the largest glacier is the world. You will also witness some of the most beautiful lakes in the Himalayas other than Gokyo such as Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari.
Once you land at the Tribhuwan International Airport, our representative will pick you and drop you off at the hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Morning we will drive to Ramechhap Aiport from Kathmandu takes 4 hours and We take a 15 minute scenic flight to Lukla where we catch up with the rest of the team to begin our trek. We head to Cheplung village where the view of Mt. Khumbila is truly exceptional. We then continues towardsPhakding. Overnight in Phakding.
We cover a height of 800 meters today. The journey starts with the crossing of the Dudkoshi, then we walk along the path west of the river. Passing through pine forests and villages we make it up north the Benkar valley. We cross the Dudh koshi again and head towards Everest National Park entrance. We then cross the Hillary Bridge and then continue hiking up a steep path leading up to Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
With great heights comes great risks, thus we will need to keep one day just to acclimatize. For this purpose, we will be hiking up to a vibrant Sherpa village of Khumjung. There we visit the Hillary School and the Khumjung Gompa. After our day of exploration, we make our way back to Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
The journey today is filled with many ascents and descents and also changes of spotting the Himalayan pheasants, musk deer and Himalayan Thars. We will also we see amazing views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawoche and Khumbila mountains as we approach Mong. Before reaching Phorse we descend to Dudhkoshi Khola and then climb up going through rhododendron forests. Phorse boasts spectacular scenes of Tawache and Cholaste mountains. Overnight in Phorse.
Today, we first cross the Dudh Koshi River and then pass through forests, waterfalls and bridges before reaching Dole. Views of Cho Oyu, Kantega, and Thamserku mountains will be decorating our journey and there are chance of spotting pheasants, mountain goats, and musk deer as well. After passing a few villages ascent above the Dudh Koshi River and then walk through sandy trails to reach Machhermo. Overnight in Machhermo.
On the first part of the trail we ascend a hill and then continue beyond a ridge. Soon the valley starts widening as we pass through a Chorten to reach Phanga. We now descend to the river bank and then climb a steep trail to reach the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba Glacier. Before reaching Gokyo, we spend some time admiring the spectacular lakes of Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari. Overnight in Gokyo.
It’s an exciting day today with mouthwatering views and complete satisfaction. We will head towards the fourth and fifth lakes of Gokyo and then to the Scoundrel’s Viewpoint where the views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makulu, and Ngazumpa Glacier- the largest glacier is the world, is breathtaking. Overnight in Gokyo.
We starting returning to our starting point today, all the while going up and down enjoying views of Gokyo lakes, the Cholatse and Taboche peaks and then Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains. We also pass through villages of Machhermo, Luza and Lhafarma to reach Dole. Overnight in Dole.
Lookout for wonderful views of mountains, rhododendrons, wildflowers and waterfalls as we make our journey back to Namche as these are the last few days in the Himalayas. Don’t miss out on beautiful views of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega, Lhotse, and the tip of Everest and Tengboche before reaching Namche. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Walking down a rocky path, crossing villages and monasteries we make it back to Lukla in about 6- 7 hours. It’s the last day in the mountains. Overnight in Lukla.
The flight to Ramechhap is scheduled early in the morning and drive to Kathmandu.Once at Kathmandu you can do some last-minute souvenir shopping and some celebration!
